As temperatures drop in November, New York’s art scene heats up, with marquee sales weeks at the auction houses, an exciting lineup of gallery exhibitions, and stellar museum exhibitions across the city.

THE NEW YORK SALES (EXHIBITION) | SOTHEBY’S NEW YORK | 8 - 20 NOV

This autumn’s auction season shines with a remarkable collection of seminal artworks by Monet, Picasso, Kandinsky, Klein, Matisse, Les Lalannes, and more, all carefully amassed by visionary beauty entrepreneur and philanthropist Sydell Miller.

20TH AND 21ST CENTURY (EXHIBITION)| CHRISTIE’S NEW YORK | 9 - 22 NOV

Highlights include Ed Ruscha’s tour-de-force on the heels of a ground-breaking retrospective and René Magritte’s ode to Surrealism from the collection of the designer and philanthropist Mica Ertegun. 

GILOT: UNE VIE | PHILLIPS NEW YORK | 4 NOV - 22 NOV 

PhillipsX presents a compelling selling exhibition featuring works by Françoise Gilot. This retrospective celebrates her life and prolific career offering a renewed look at her legacy after her passing at 101 just over a year ago.

Following his celebrated, nationally touring museum exhibition, ‘Public Enemy,’ Gary Simmons unveils a new series of works in his first presentation with Hauser&Wirth.

CECILY BROWN: THE 5 SENSES | PAULA COOPER GALLERY | 24 OCT – 7 DEC

Cecily’s first solo exhibition in New York since the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 2023 retrospective. She reflects on the senses through a collection of paintings, drawings, and prints.

HOMAGE TO FRANK STELLA | MNUCHIN GALLERY | 18 SEP - 14 DEC

Honouring his life and artistic legacy, this selection of works highlights the enduring impact of Stella’s varied and exploratory oeuvre, featuring key pieces from 1958 to 2023.

PARK SEO-BO: THE NEWSPAPER ECRITURES, 2022–23| WHITE CUBE NEW YORK | 8 NOV - 11 JAN 2025

White Cube exhibits the final body of work by Park Seo-Bo, created on archival newspaper pages with dynamic oil paint applications that preserve the dates of the periodicals.

THE MUSEUMS 

HARMONY AND DISSONANCE: ORPHISM IN PARIS, 1910–1930 | GUGGENHEIM NEW YORK | 8 NOV - 9 MAR 2025

The first in-depth examination of the Orphist avant-garde, featuring around 100 artworks installed on five levels of the museum’s spiral rotunda.

DRAW THEM IN, PAINT THEM OUT: TRENTON DOYLE HANCOCK CONFRONTS PHILIP GUSTON | THE JEWISH MUSEUM | 8 NOV - 30 MAR 2025

Contemporary Black artist Trenton Doyle Hancock engages with the provocative work of twentieth-century Jewish painter Philip Guston, highlighting their shared exploration of white supremacy’s legacy in the U.S.

AROUND TOWN

Artist Francesco Clemente opened a new bar in collaboration with Daniel Humm called Clemente Bar. 

Hauser & Wirth continues their art & dining empire with the opening of Manuela at 130 Prince Street — just steps from the Hauser & Wirth Soho outpost.

The High Line has a new artwork addition by Iván Argote  - a giant pigeon overlooking at 30th Street and 10th Avenue.
