5 of Our Favourite Art Spots Around Saudi Arabia

18 Feb 2025 5 of Our Favourite Art Spots Around Saudi Arabia

It’s no secret that Saudi Arabia is one of the hottest art destinations right now. With a booming museum scene—both public and private—and major cultural events under the government programme 'Vision 2030', the country is rapidly transforming its artistic landscape. Back in February, The Cultivist took members on an unforgettable journey, including a visit to the second edition of the Islamic Arts Biennale. Here five of our highlights for your next travel itinerary:

ATHR Gallery, Jeddah

Since 2009, ATHR has been a leader in Saudi Arabia’s contemporary art scene, showcasing both established and emerging regional talent. With spaces in Jeddah, AlUla, and Riyadh, the Jeddah flagship is a must-visit, where fresh talent is on display and the staff offer expert recommendations for nearby cultural destinations.

Art Jameel, Jeddah

A creative hub for multidisciplinary artists, Art Jameel’s exhibitions are complemented by artist studios you can visit—if you’re lucky, you might catch an artist in action. Afterwards, enjoy Italian cuisine at Sofia’s Bistro and browse the concept store’s curated selection of fabrics and design pieces.

House of Islamic Arts Museum, Jeddah

As the first museum of its kind in Saudi Arabia, this unique institution, occupying the top floor of a shopping mall, offers an exclusive opportunity to explore a meticulously curated collection of Islamic art spanning 15 centuries. A highlight is the photography display, which traces the history and development of Saudi Arabia. Conveniently located across from ATHR Gallery, it’s well worth combining both venues in one visit.

Wadi AlFann presents: James Turrell, AlUla

This landmark exhibition by light and space artist James Turrell features detailed plans, design renders, and a constellation map for his upcoming commission in Wadi AlFann. Open until 19 April 2025, it’s an unmissable experience for art enthusiasts.

Diriyah Art Futures, Diriyah

Located in the historical Diriyah Old Town, Diriyah Art Futures is the first hub in the MENA region dedicated to New Media Arts. Spend around 40 minutes here exploring exhibitions focused on technology, AI, and digital art by renowned artists.
