Focusing on the Frieze London Fair

05 Sep 2023 Focusing on the Frieze London Fair

Regent's Park will regain its position as the art world's primary focus for a few days, thanks to the return of Frieze Week, now celebrating its 20th anniversary, this October. Photo London, PAD London and 1-54 are the concurrent major fairs also taking place.

As always, Frieze London is joined by Frieze Masters and Frieze Sculpture, which opens first on 20 September, but the sections within the main fair will be a big draw this edition, especially the "Artist-to-Artist" section, where Alvaro Barrington, Olafur Eliasson, Tracey Emin CBE RA, Anthea Hamilton, Simone Leigh, Wolfgang Tillmans, Rirkrit Tiravanija and Haegue Yang will select artists for solo presentations. In addition to this new artist-led section, "Modern Women" and "Studio" make their debut.

This year, our shining encounter is the annual Frieze Party at the Royal Academy, which will also be a celebration of the new Marina Abramović exhibition. Members can also join us for a tour of PAD London and a studio visit with renowned British abstract artist Winston Brach.

London Art Week will also include two of our partner events hosted in cooperation with illy Art Collection, created with the purpose of demystifying the art world. This "Art For Thought" series will include two different talks — "How to Build an Art House" with Joey Lico and "Art Through The Ages" with Dr. Madeleine Haddon.

In addition to the previously-mentioned Marina Abramović Royal Academy show, there will be plenty of buzz surrounding the "Coco" Chanel show at The V&A. And for those not fascinated by performance or fashion, the Philip Guston exhibition at Tate Modern may be more inviting. As always, the cluster of top-level galleries situated in Mayfair can offer any art lover a day of gallery hopping from one space to the next.

As the fair dates inch closer, we will share our coveted Frieze brochure and London gallery guide to help members further indulge in the art fair festivities. Join The Cultivist in time to take advantage of all the Art Week offerings — find more info about our memberships here.
