Seoul's galleries and institutions present a stellar array of programmes across the capital city. With so much on offer, even the most enthusiastic visitors might find it challenging to experience everything. Here are some must-see art events during Seoul Art Week (2 - 7 September 2024):

FRIEZE Seoul | 2 - 5 September | COEX Convention & Exhibition Center

This year's Frieze Live introduces a new performance category, ‘Nerve or Divine Pathway’. Seven artists will explore how movement, sound, and visuals transform the human body and poetry into a multisensory experience with over five performances. On our radar is Korean artist Choi Goen, who will be honoured with the 2024 Artist Award. We eagerly anticipate her ambitious new body of work, which will be unveiled at the fair!

KIAF Seoul | 4 - 8 September | COEX Convention & Exhibition Center

Following a rigorous selection process, ten artists will be featured in the highlights exhibition under the theme ‘New Discoveries & Fresh Encounters’. We’re excited to see Wonmi Seo’s expressive paintings at La Heen Galleries’ booth who’s work explores the Korean word ‘말’ and examines the interplay between language and symbol.

‘Talking Bodies: Asian Women Artists’ | MMCA Seoul | 3 September 2024 - 3 March 2025

This major exhibition will highlight the work of Asian women artists from the 1960s to the present, focusing on the theme of ‘corporeality’. It offers a thematic and multidimensional view of their art from a transnational and comparative cultural perspective.

'Elmgreen & Dragset: Spaces' | Amorepacific Museum of Art | 3 September 2024 - 23 March 2025

The Berlin-based duo, known for their wit and subversive humour, will take over the entire museum, transforming it into unexpected environments.

Nari Ward: Ongoin' | Lehmann Maupin | 28 August - 19 October 2024

The artist's second exhibition in Seoul features copper panel works, sculptures, and wall installations that explore healing and care within local communities, particularly Harlem, his longtime New York neighbourhood.

Salon Hannam 2024 | Hanwha General Insurance Company Building | 4 - 14 September 2024

The programme at Salon Hannam features standout events, including the Artist's Room with Brooklyn-based speaker sculptor and sound expert Devon Turnbull, and the special exhibition 'Imaginary Worlds: Female Surrealism,' presented by Sotheby's.

'Anicka Yi' | The Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art | 5 September - 29 December 2024

New York-based Korean artist Anicka Yi will present her first solo museum show in Asia, unveiling installations made from unconventional materials that blur the lines between the organic and the synthetic, biology and technology.

'Nicolas Party' | Hoam Museum of Art | Opening September

The contemporary artist of the moment will make his debut in Korea with an exciting solo exhibition. Details and dates are yet to be revealed, but we can’t wait to see what he has in store!

'Portrait of a Collection' | SongEun Art Space | 4 September - 23 November 2024

Selected contemporary works from the collection of internationally renowned collector François Pinault will be exhibited at SongEun Art Space.

'Gabriel Orozco' | White Cube Seoul | 4 September - 14 December 2024

White Cube will present a solo exhibition of paintings, sculptures, and works on paper by Mexican artist Gabriel Orozco who takes inspiration from Japanese and Chinese painting traditions and applies his signature motifs of circles and grids to create dynamic patterns.
