Artist Edition: "Embalming Fecundity" by Apnavi Makanji

Embalming Fecundity (2022) is a mixed media collage executed on a page taken from Larousse Atlas Politique et Économique. The work draws attention to the Larousse Atlas as a post-colonial extractivist reference book. The juxtaposition of the collage on a page of the Atlas reflects the fragility of ecosystems and the ongoing brutality involved in extractivism and state violence; which leads to the loss of species and indigenous land in South America.
